LK Advani, Rajnath Singh laud PM Modi’s Birthday Diplomacy with Pak PM
BJP veteran LK Advani today supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘sudden’ stopover in Islamabad to extend birthday diplomacy to Pakistan PM Nawaj Sharif. While lauding PM Modi’s initiative, Advani said that the process of improving Indo-Pak relation, started by ex-PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, should be taken forward by Modi. While vouching for the need of friendship between the people of two countries, the BJP veteran called for getting relief of the terror outfits that have emerged in the recent past. Home Minister Rajnath Singh has also lauded PM Modi’s initiative by calling it “innovative diplomacy”. Singh went on to say that this kind of initiative has enhanced dignity of India before the world.
CPIM to hold Mega Rally in Kolkata Today to mark beginning of Dec 27-31 Plenum
Communist Party of India (Marxist) is all set to organize a huge rally in Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata to mark beginning of their Organisational Plenum, to take place from December 27 to 31, 2015 in Kolkata. Reports say that the last party plenum of CPIM took place 37 years back in West Bengal’s Salkia (in Howrah district). With assembly polls in both West Bengal and Kerala to be held in 2016, significance of this plenum has increased manifolds. It is believed that left is trying to chart a path for reviving itself, which now holds power in only one state – Tripura.
PM Modi makes ‘Sudden’ Birthday Diplomacy with Pak PM Sharif
Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday evening created a sort of political earthquake by paying 150 minute ‘unscheduled’ visit to Pakistan, while returning from his 3-day Russia-Afghanistan tour. This is the first ever Prime Ministerial visit to Pakistan after ex-PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Lahore visit in 2004. PM Modi’s special IAF Boeing 737 touched down at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, at 4.50 PM IST where he was received by Pak PM Nawaz Sharif. PM Modi gave him a warm hug wishing on his birthday, which coincides with birthday of AB Vajpayee. Modi also visited Sharif’s palatial residence in Lahore’s outskirts – Raiwind – where the two held one-to-one interaction on peace talks for the larger good of the two countries. PM Modi, after reaching India, visited the ailing 91-year old ex-PM Vajpayee to greet him on his birthday.

RBI says Loans of Indian Banks in Two Weeks till Dec 11 increased 11 Per Cent YOY
Reports of RBI shows that when the disbursed loan of banks in the first two weeks, up to December 11 of 2015, is compared with that of last year, there has been an increase of 11 per cent this year. Weekly statistical supplement of RBI shows that banks’ deposit has also increased by 11.5 per cent (Rs. 602.00 billion to Rs. 91.85 trillion). While food credit increased from Rs. 4.60 billion to Rs. 1.09 trillion, non-food credit has increased from Rs. 977.20 billion to Rs. 68.57 trillion. The concerned supplement shows that outstanding loans has also swelled from Rs. 981.80 billion to Rs. 69.66 trillion.
IT Ministry to start connecting Rural India on Dec 28 as part of “Good Governance Day”
Union Minister of Communications and IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad, is all set to launch a slew of schemes for marking “Good Governance Day” on 28 December 2015. One of the major announcements will be initiation of the process of digitally connecting all rural post offices throughout India. Digitization of rural post offices will include equipping rural postmen with biometric hand-held devices that are powered by solar energy. Officials say rural post offices are planned to receive 1.30 lakh hand-held devices by March 2017. This project will initially be launched in pilot circles in Rajasthan, Bihar, and UP. Launch of core banking facilities across 12,000 post offices will also be done.
2015 witnesses spike in fund raising by Corporate through IPO
Reports show that fund flow to the IPO (Indian Initial Public Offer) market has spiked up in 2015 as 21 companies have floated their IPOs, garnering Rs. 13,600 crore in total. It is also learnt that new IPOs amounting to a whooping Rs. 14,000 crore is also in the final phase of entering the market. Experts say that IPOs amounting to Rs. 50,000 crore are already in the pipeline to hit the Dalal Street. Analysts are upbeat about the increasing depth of the IPO market because of the diverse sectoral composition (airlines, electronics, pharma, logistics, QSRs, and renewable energy) in which IPOs are being floated in 2015.

Reliance Employees to get Reliance Jio Today
At a mega event in Navi Mumbai today, 4G services of Reliance – called Reliance Jio, will be rolled out for the employees of Reliance. Reports say that there will be a total attendance of 35,000 in the event directly along with a virtual attendance of tens of thousands. It is learnt that live streaming of the event will also take place in 1,000 locations across the world through the digital network of Jio. The grand function at Reliance Corporate Park will be hosted by Oscar winning musician AR Rahman and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Commercial launch of Reliance Jio is expected to take place during March-April 2016.
Former ISRO Chief G Madhavan Nair slams India’s Educational System
G Madhavan Nair, renowned scientist and ex-Chairman of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) slammed the current schooling education system of India and urged for renewing thrust in the scientific and research fields for bringing forth the next stage of technical innovation in India. He criticized the current schooling system that encourages rote learning and compared it with factories churning out products. He also gave example of China, which has overtaken India in the field of science and research manifolds. G Madhavan Nair stressed upon the need to bring forth such an educational system that encourages school students to get engaged in laboratory experiments.
Free Wi-Fi, GPS Tracking, and CCTV Cameras for 6 Delhi Buses
An official statement says that Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai has launched 6 public transport DTC buses that come with free WiFi services. Reports say that these public transport vehicles, launched by the Delhi government, will also have closed circuit televisions (CCTVs) along with Global Positioning System (GPS) for ensuring safety for women. The launch took place at Delhi Secretariat. Reports say that details of the Wi-Fi can be obtained at back of the seats of these buses. A trial period, till January 15, has been scheduled in selected routes where free Wi-Fi can be accessed by each commuter for 10 minutes.

Ashok Kumar picked up as Wrestling Referee for 2016 Rio Olympics
Ashok Kumar, an international level Wrestling referee from India, has been selected among the 9 Asian referees selected by United World Wrestling (UWW) to officiate during 2016 Rio Olympics. This is a historic moment for India as this is the first time ever that a wrestling referee from India will officiate at the Olympic Games. Kumar is among the 50 referees selected to officiate the wrestling games in Olympics. Ashok Kumar, who is serving as Indian Air Force’s warrant officer currently, has participated as referee in over 50 international tournaments. Reports say that the selection was done on the basis of the performance of referees from September to December 11-13.
Korada Ramana and Sanjita Chanu win Gold on 1st Day of Senior National Weightlifting Championships
On the first day of Senior National Weightlifting Championships, played at SAI centre of Patiala, gold medals were won by Korada Ramana and Sanjita Chanu in their respective 56kg and 48kg categories. In the 48kg category, Sanjita Chanu lifted 173kg (95kg in clean-and-jerk and 78kg in snatch) to secure a gold. The silver and bronze medals in this category were won by Mirabai Chanu and Chandrika Tarafdar. In the 56kg men’s category, Korada Ramana lifted a total 251kg (142kg in clean and jerk and 109kg in snatch) to win gold. Silver and bronze medals in this category were won by Jamjang Deru and Guru Raja respectively.
Cricket Boards of India and West Indies end their 1-year long Impasse
BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and the WICB (West Indies Cricket Board) have decided to resume cricketing ties between the two countries after a yearlong impasse between the two cricket boards. It has been decided that West Indies will play against India during mid-2016 in the Caribbean islands. Reports say that during July-August 2016, 4 test matches will be played between the two countries. This news was confirmed through a media release by WICB president, Dave Cameron. In October 2014, WICB pulled out of India-West Indies series, scheduled for play in India, over pay dispute with BCCI.

The Diwale superstars SRK and Kajol have been honoured with Lifetime Membership by the East Bengal Football Club. This is not the end of the story. The ever-romantic onscreen couple was given cool yellow and red-coloured T-shirts of the club by the president Pranab Dasgupta.
Shekhar Kapur making short film on Buddha’s enlightenment
Shekhar Kapur has embarked on a quest to sneak into Lord Buddha’s mind when he attained enlightenment, with his camera. The filmmaker says he is making a short film on what went in the mind of Buddha at the time of awakening in a more virtual and immersive space. “I want to make a film on what actually happened to Buddha at the time of enlightenment. So, I’m trying to make a 13-14 minute film on it. I’m trying to give the audience a feeling of what could have happened in his mind, how he saw the world, how the world changed when he was going through enlightenment,” Kapur said on the sidelines of Film Bazaar. NFDC to become single-window clearance point for film shoots
A single window clearance system in India is a dream that will become a reality for filmmakers across the world. A Film Facilitation Office will be operated by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), eliminating all channels of bureaucracy and multiple stops for getting clearance for a film’s shoot. The move of making NFDC a ‘single-window clearance’ system will be formally announced at the forthcoming Film Bazaar. The annual film market, which is organised alongside the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), is held from November 20-24. Source: IANS

Sartaj Aziz says not to expect much from India-Pak Talks in January
Sartaj Aziz, Foreign Affairs advisor of Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif, has asked not to expect much progress from the foreign secretary level discussions between India and Pakistan, to be held next month in Islamabad. Aziz made the comment while speaking on the possibilities of Indo-Pak peace at a Current Affairs programme on Radio Pakistan. Toning down the high level of expectations that have emerged after ‘sudden’ Pak stopover by Indian PM Narendra Modi, Aziz said that it will be unfair to expect all the issues to get resolved between India and Pakistan in one meeting. He added that the initial focus of discussion will revolve around reducing tension along LoC.
North India feels Strong Tremors as 6.4-magnitude Earthquake rocks Afghanistan
Just two months after a 7.5-magnitude earthquake destroyed thousands of houses and killed over 300 people in Afghanistan and Pakistan, strong tremor of 6.4-magnitude was recorded near Afghanistan- Tajikistan border on late Friday night. Extent of the tremor was felt in northern India, especially in Delhi, Jaipur, Chandigarh, and NCR (National Capital Region). Delhi Police tweeted that there were no news of any kind of casualty or damage due to the earthquake. Reports of US Geological Survey say that depth of the earthquake is spread over an area of 203.5 kilometres. It is learnt that in northern India, tremors were felt at around 12.48am IST.
PM Modi takes jibe at his Opposition and Detractors at “Friends of India” Event in Russia
At a time when DDCA scam issue is rocking the Indian political landscape and suspension of BJP MP Kirti Azad creating ripples within BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a swipe at his detractors as well as opposition parties while addressing around 3,000 strong audience in ‘Friends of India’ event in Moscow, during his Russia visit. He said there are many who only cry about problems but his government is among those who try to find solutions out of them. PM Modi’s remarks came at a time when opposition parties stalled important reforms bill in the parliament during the just concluded winter session.
